Intermission has transformed my life entirely!
Before joining Intermission I would remain the quietest in group settings, afraid to contribute to activities due to anxiety but now I feel confident knowing that my opinions are valued and I am worthy of the space I occupy in the world.
I’m very grateful for a place like Intermission that allows young people to explore Theatre in an accessible way as I was someone who struggled with learning in school - I’m grateful for the opportunity to explore a subject I loved in a way that allows me to invest all of myself without having to worry about money.
Joining Intermission last year was everything I needed - although I didn’t know when applying how much I would get out of this programme, I’m grateful that I committed all of myself to it. I’ve been able to gain transferable skills like how to communicate with people from different walks of life, how to adapt in different circumstances, critical thinking and attention to detail. I am now able to approach life with hope in mind rather than fear.
The team at Intermission are very supportive and accessible - there was not one person that I felt like I couldn’t approach if I was ever in need. I felt extremely supported during my time at Intermission and I’m very grateful for the extended care towards my family when my mum became suddenly ill. Even during my hardest moments where I would naturally sabotage and run from opportunities, the community at Intermission never let me go and I was able to continue to show up and give my best.
The Youth Theatre Programme has genuinely taught me that I don’t have to be so hard on myself - it’s okay to get things wrong because sometimes that’s the only way to get things right. Grace doesn’t have to be earned and I feel now that I have experienced such grace at Intermission it’s my duty to share it wherever I go - turning judgement into curiosity one day at a time.
